Ultimate Jewelry Care Guide: How to make your jewelry shine for eternity?

Guide entretien Ultime : Comment faire briller vos bijoux pour l'éternité ?

Have you just fallen in love with an Opaline Paris creation? Congratulations! Whether it's a fine ring, a delicate necklace or sparkling earrings, you have in your hands a quality piece of jewelry, designed to enhance your everyday life.

In our shop, we make no compromises on quality: all our pieces are crafted from a solid sterling silver (S925) base, coated with a 3-micron gold plating . This gives them their luxurious shine and superior durability compared to classic costume jewelry.

However, even the finest armor needs care. Your jewelry is guaranteed for one year, but to ensure it lasts season after season, retaining its original brilliance, it requires a little attention.

Here are the secrets to keeping your Opaline Paris jewelry sparkling.

1. Understand the composition of your jewelry

To properly care for your jewelry, it's important to understand its properties. Your jewelry isn't made of steel or brass, but of 925 sterling silver . The 3-micron gold plating is a thick and durable layer (the French jewelry standard), but it's still just a layer deposited on the metal.

Silver's natural enemy is oxidation, and gold plating's enemy is abrasion. Your mission? Protect this precious wedding band.

2. The golden rule: "Last in, first out"

This is the absolute mantra for keeping a piece of jewelry in perfect condition.

  • Cosmetics and Perfumes: The alcohol in perfumes, the fixing agents in hairsprays, and the oils in moisturizers can attack the gold layer and tarnish the silver underneath.

The right way to do it: Apply your cream, spray your perfume, let it dry for a few minutes, and only then put on your jewelry.

3. Water: Friend or Foe?

Although our 3 micron plating is resistant, water is not always harmless.

  • Soft water: An occasional shower won't kill your jewelry, but limescale can, over time, dull its shine.
  • Swimming pool and sea (Red Zone): Chlorine and salt are extremely corrosive. They can irreversibly damage the plating and tarnish the S925 silver underneath.

Expert tip: Always remove your rings and necklaces before going for a swim or visiting the spa.

4. Nighttime and sports: Let them breathe

We know you love your Opaline Paris jewelry, but sleeping in it is not recommended.

  • Friction: Repeated contact with the sheets acts like very fine sandpaper which, night after night, refines the layer of gold.
  • Acidity (pH): Sweat is naturally acidic. Depending on your skin's pH (which varies according to stress, diet, or hormones), sweating can accelerate oxidation. This is even more true during exercise!

5. Tidying Up: A Beautiful Sleep

When you are not wearing your jewelry, do not leave it exposed in the bathroom (humidity is fatal to silver).

  • Separate them: Silver is a soft metal. If you store all your rings together, they will scratch each other.
  • Darkness is your ally: Store each piece individually in the pouch or Opaline Paris case provided with your purchase. This protects them from moisture, light, and scratches.

6. Cleaning: Gentleness above all

Is your jewelry lacking a little shine? Don't panic. There's no need for harsh chemicals sold in supermarkets.

  • The soft cloth (provided): This is the best method. Gently rub your dry jewelry with a soft microfiber cloth to restore shine and remove fingerprints or sebum.

Warm bath (If needed): If the jewelry is very dirty, soak it for a few minutes in warm water with a little Marseille soap. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry immediately and carefully.

Warning: Never use a toothbrush (even a soft one) or toothpaste on gold plating, as this will permanently scratch the gold layer.

By following these simple tips, you'll ensure your Opaline Paris jewelry has a long and sparkling life. Take care of it, and it will continue to make you shine!
